Final summer supermarket drive is a hit

This summer’s final supermarket drive at Waitrose Holloway Road was a roaring success, collecting 829.7kg of food for the foodbank.

Volunteers were on the floor from 10am until 3pm greeting customers doing their Saturday shop and asking if they wanted to donate to the foodbank while they were in the supermarket. The response was positive from most customers, who were happy to see the food going straight to the foodbank.

Volunteer Zoey said “once people understand the foodbank process they’re much more willing to help, which means it feels great to be a part of that.”

Shift leader Elisabeth agreed: “people are happy to give actual products rather than money, and it’s a local cause, so all the better.”

The volunteers also noticed a couple of familiar faces: former MP Neil Kinnock donated generously, and actor Charles Dance, most recently seen in HBO’s Game Of Thrones was also spotted in the supermarket.
