Islington Foodbank in need of additional food stocks as client levels rise by 60%

1st May 2017

The dramatic increase in client numbers is finding the foodbank very short of food.

The 60% increase in clients over the last year is impacting on the amount of food that we need to bring in every month.

In March 2017 alone, the foodbank gave out 4.5 tonnes of food, and in just one afternoon session gave out 600kg of food.

We depend on drives held in supermarkets, churches, and local businesses and schools for food, which over the past few years have been very generous in their food supplies. While we have just about managed to keep up, there are times when we are finding that we are close to running out of stocks.

Over the past three years we’ve been very grateful for the support given by Waitrose in Holloway Road in hosting regular ‘supermarket drives’, and are now hoping that other big local supermarkets as well as other local organisations and individuals will be able to support us.
