Gracious donations this winter

17th February 2018

Donations to Islington Foodbank

The foodbank is very fortunate in receiving donations from local schools, churches, businesses, and, of course, supermarkets.

Here are details of some of the organisations that gave donations this autumn

Gillespie Primary School
As the warehouse team were sorting out donations that people had so generously made, in the run-up to Christmas, we received a visit from Gillespie Primary School, with their school’s donation .

Neighbourhood churches support the foodbank

The neighbourhood churches are regular donors to the foodbank. This autumn and winter we received support from the following:

Universal Church of the Kingdom of God

In October the foodbank was the grateful recipient of food donations from the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.

Greek Orthodox Church

In November, we received a donation of 387kgs of food from the Greek Orthodox Church of St Anthony the Great and John the Baptist.

We also received donations from the following churches: Tollington Park Baptist Church, New River Baptist Church, St Mary’s Upper Street, St Luke’s Church and New Life Church. As mentioned in September’s Newsletter, we received a food donation of 1,410 kg from House on the Rock Church.

Local business helps the foodbank

This October we received a donation of 194.7 kg of food from Cowan, a design company based in Rosebery Avenue. Olivia and Claudia who made the delivery.

An extra four pair of hands helps out with the backlog
We were able to rely on invaluable additional help at the foodbank warehouse, where we receive and sort out deliveries, and make them into food bags. Skyline, a local events management company, who organise events for charity, made a food donation on 18 December, just before Christmas. When they saw how busy the foodbank warehouse was two staff members stayed on to help to clear the backlog, and then sent another two staff members to assist at the warehouse on the following day! So a big thanks to Skyline – we couldn’t have weighed and stored the food that came in this week without their help.
