Supermarkets are one of the best sources of food donations for our foodbank.
This autumn we had a number of successful supermarket drives, thanks to Reannan, our supermarket drives supremo. Altogether we collected a total of 3357kg, as a result of four drives in both Waitrose and Tesco. While this sounds a large amount of food, last month we gave out 3688kg of food.
Last year we began supplementing supermarket drives with a permanent collection bin where members of the public can buy items from the store and place in a food bin at the Waitrose stores in Holloway Road and Clerkenwell. This has proved very successful, as over a three-month period we have collected a total of 2701kg of food. A big thank you to the management at these stores for making this possible. Items that are not bought at Waitrose can still be donated at our centre in Highbury.
