Islington Foodbank Reverse Advent Calendar

28th November 2018

Reverse advent calendars are the new Christmas tradition all about giving. The idea is, rather than receiving a treat each day, you give something instead.

We know that December was the busiest month for foodbanks across the country last year, with the Trussell Trust providing 49% more emergency food supplies than the monthly average for the year. The story was no different in Islington. Four times last December we gave out more than 600kg in a single shift when the average is between 200kg and 300kg. And expectations are that this year demand will be even higher.

Food donations are therefore more important to us at this time of year than ever, and a reverse advent calendar is the perfect way to do this.

We’ve selected an item we need for each day in December (in the above calendar), so as you go through the month with your own preparations for Christmas, why not put something aside each day for those in the local community who are most in need? Find out how to make a reverse advent calendar with our handy guide.

You can bring donations to the Foodbank during our opening hours 2pm-5pm every Monday and Saturday. We’re open every Monday and Saturday in December, including Christmas Eve, so please do come down and donate.
